Dear Friends,

Imagine being able to meaningfully participate in curing a deadly childhood disease?
Now imagine witnessing this accomplishment in your lifetime?
Now imagine witnessing it in the next five years?
Since our inception we have been incredibly fortunate to receive tremendous financial support from not only those who knew and loved Matt Wiederkehr (our Founder) but also from those who believed in our mission and goals. This generosity has allowed us to support exploration into the most innovative and cutting edge research in medicine today.
Matt’s Promise’s core project is our partnership with Charley’s Fund. Through this strategic alliance we have been instrumental in supporting some of the most meaningful advances in the search for a treatment or cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) – a uniformly terminal illness that is the number one genetic killer of children in the world today.
Just prior to his untimely death, Matt received the news that Charley Seckler – the youngest son of Matt’s closest childhood friend – was diagnosed with this horrible illness. Matt decided that day that finding a treatment for this illness in time to save Charley and tens of thousands of other young boys, would be our cornerstone project until such a time as the disease was wiped out!
Due largely to our efforts, your extraordinary generosity, and the unprecedented achievements of Charley’s Fund, what was nowhere in sight four years ago is now well on its way to becoming a reality. We have been instrumental in getting three promising drugs into in human clinical trials. These drugs have the potential to dramatically extend and improve the lives of children with DMD — children who, until only recently, had no hope of a treatment.
Over the next two years Matt’s Promise will be working even more closely with Charley’s Fund in an ambitious effort to finance the development of new medicines, and initiate additional clinical trials.
For the first time in history a treatment is in our grasp. For the first time history we have a very real chance of saving a generation of boys who share this grim prognosis.
The bad news is that time is running out. Charley is getting older and we do not have the luxury of patience. The good news is we are so very close.
Can you imagine clicking on our website and seeing the words “WE DID IT!”? With a little time, a little luck and your continued generosity that is exactly what you will see.
So I ask again…
Imagine being able to meaningfully participate in curing a deadly childhood disease?
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and from all of us at Matt’s Promise, for your extraordinary loyalty, support and generosity.
Sincerely,
Randy Reiff
President
