2nd Annual Benefit Concert | Featuring The Steve Miller Band

Matt’s Promise Hosts 2nd Annual Concert Benefit Featuring The Steve Miller Band

On Wednesday, May 16, 2007, more than 700 people supported Matt’s Promise by attending the 2nd annual concert benefit featuring The Steve Miller Band at Skylight Studios. There wasn’t an open seat in the house!

The honoree was the venture capitalist Ron Conway, whose brilliant career, entrepreneurial spirit and philanthropic nature, made him the perfect candidate for this recognition. Ron spearheaded the funding for the Matt Wiederkehr Laboratory at the Mission Bay campus at the University of California, San Francisco. The team working in the laboratory is focusing their research on proteins found in the body that mark the progression of cancer from the development of a healthy cell into a precancerous and, at times, a malignant one.

Attendees had an opportunity to hear from Dr. Benjy Seckler, whose son, Charley, has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Fighting DMD and finding a cure is the cornerstone project of Matt’s Promise. (See current projects.) Benjy shared information on the advances that are being made in the area of gene modification therapy, and every attendee at our event helped us to move this research along.

All of us at Matt’s Promise thank the sponsors, donors, attendees, and volunteers for allowing us to declare victory for an event that made us Fly Like an Eagle!
