6th Annual Benefit Concert | Featuring John Mayer
Support for Matt’s Promise reached an all time high on May 12, 2011 when close to 1,000 friends, family and colleagues attended our 6th Annual Benefit Concert featuring John Mayer. A heartfelt thank you to all who came out and enjoyed our most successful event to date, helping us reach new milestones to fund the most current and cutting research being initiated in partnership with Charley’s Fund.
Matt’s Promise President Chairs Randy Reiff together with Jennifer Wiederkehr Rothberg kicked the evening off with a presentation of the Matthew Wiederkehr Leadership Award to Caroline Budner, a long-time volunteer who year after year has tirelessly ensured so much of our success. Congratulations Caroline and thank you for all you do!
We were fortunate once again to hear from Benjy Seckler, founder of Charley’s Fund and father to Charley Seckler. Benjy provided an update on current initiatives underway and the incredible advances being made in gene, drug and stem cell therapies, due in no small part, to your continued and generous support. Benjy additionally spoke to the continued need for urgency and for major sources of funding as we race against the clock to find a treatment for Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy (DMD).
Benjy’s heartfelt call to action spurred unprecedented generosity from our attendees during the live auction and lightening round. Several of our friends and donors are going on fabulous vacations including first class resorts in Costa Rica and Anguilla as well as to the Golden Globes, a championship boxing match and next year’s Superbowl! Once again a lucky supporter took home a beautiful Golden Retriever puppy, while several John Mayer Fans will be enjoying front seat tickets, back stage passes and a signed guitar!
John Mayer’s astounding acoustic set exceded all of our expectations as guests were able to get up close and personal and enjoy such hits as Your Body is a Wonderland, Waiting on the World and Why Georgia.
100% of the proceeds from our 6th Annual Benefit Concert will, through our partnership with Charley’s Fund, go directly into the hands of the scientists and researchers who are at the heart of currrent DMD research and whose work has the best chance of becoming a viable treatment or cure in the immediate future.
Thank you to all who attended and the many who sent generous donations and helped us to surpass our goals for this year’s event! DMD is currently the number one genetic killer of children on this planet. It is only with your support that we are able to assist those working in earnest to eradicate DMD in time to save tens of thousands of children like Charley. It is in partnership with you, our donors and supporters, that we are able to keep alive Matt’s promise!
Please save the date for next year’s 7th Annual Benefit Concert – Thursday May 10th, 2012.
