9th Annual Benefit Concert | Featuring Chicago

chicago
For the first time in history, a treatment for DMD is more than a dream. We have a very real chance of saving a growing population of boys who share the grimmest prognosis imaginable – to be wheelchair bound by early teens and heart failure by 20.

Your seemingly endless loyalty and support of our Annual Benefit Concert remains the driving force behind the enormous advances of finding a treatment or a cure to stamp for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The proceeds raised from this event will go directly into the hands of those working to make DMD the FIRST childhood illness we eradicate in time to save tens of thousands of kids.

Ace Greenburg

Matt’s Promise Remembers Alan “Ace” Greenberg.

Thank you Ace.

Dear Friends and Supporters: As most of you know, Alan “Ace” Greenberg passed away last week and was laid to rest today. Ace was a unique and extraordinary individual. An icon in the finance world, an unprecedented philanthropist, a devout family man, a gifted leader and an uncommon friend, Ace’s philosophies in business and in life touched and inspired most everyone who knew him. It has been one of the great privileges of my life to be among the many guided by his wisdom and leadership and I am proud and grateful to have called him a mentor and a friend. (more…)

6th Annual Benefit Concert | Featuring John Mayer

johnmeyerSupport for Matt’s Promise reached an all time high on May 12, 2011 when close to 1,000 friends, family and colleagues attended our 6th Annual Benefit Concert featuring John Mayer. A heartfelt thank you to all who came out and enjoyed our most successful event to date, helping us reach new milestones to fund the most current and cutting research being initiated in partnership with Charley’s Fund.

Matt’s Promise President Chairs Randy Reiff together with Jennifer Wiederkehr Rothberg kicked the evening off with a presentation of the Matthew Wiederkehr Leadership Award to Caroline Budner, a long-time volunteer who year after year has tirelessly ensured so much of our success. Congratulations Caroline and thank you for all you do!

We were fortunate once again to hear from Benjy Seckler, founder of Charley’s Fund and father to Charley Seckler. Benjy provided an update on current initiatives underway and the incredible advances being made in gene, drug and stem cell therapies, due in no small part, to your continued and generous support. Benjy additionally spoke to the continued need for urgency and for major sources of funding as we race against the clock to find a treatment for Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy (DMD). (more…)

5th Annual Benefit Concert | Featuring The Fray

thefray

From America’s Mile High City comes THE FRAY, a foursome whose melodic pop-rock songs and soaring vocals resonate with sprawling tapestries and tales of hopefulness and heartache. Formed in 2002 by high school friends Isaac Slade (vocals, piano) and Joe King (guitar, vocals), THE FRAY earned a loyal grassroots following through impressive Denver area gigs and the support of local radio which led a listener-driven campaign to get the band a record contract. With strong word-of-mouth the band won “Best New Band” honors from Westword magazine and garnered substantial airplay on two of Denver’s top rock stations with a demo version of “Cable Car (Over My Head).” The band signed to Epic Records in 2004 and released their debut album How To Save A Life in September of that same year. 3rd Annual Benefit Concert | Featuring Squeeze

On Thursday, May 15, nearly 700 people attended the 3rd annual Matt’s Promise benefit concert at the prestigious Cipriani Wall Street. The room was awash in warm lights and the Matt’s Promise logo held a prominent place to remind us all why we were there – to fulfill Matt Wiederkehr’s dying wish to help young people battling terminal diseases. His passion has become our vision and everyone who attended the event had a hand in helping us raise more than $800,000! Our 2008 event honored Morgan Procida, the 17-year-old who launched our 5K Memory Run that raised $40,000 to fund research into synovial sarcoma. We also honored the cast and crew of Darius Goes West, featuring Darius Weems, who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy. A highlight of the event was showcasing the songs by 80s band, Squeeze, which had the audience up on its feet and singing along. And all of our guests walked away happy after visiting the Judith Ripka jewelry bar and fishbowl raffle, or by participating in the live auction which featured dinner at Rao’s, a weekend in Napa Valley, and US Open tickets, to name a few. 2nd Annual Benefit Concert |Featuring The Steve Miller Band

Matt’s Promise Hosts 2nd Annual Concert Benefit Featuring The Steve Miller Band

On Wednesday, May 16, 2007, more than 700 people supported Matt’s Promise by attending the 2nd annual concert benefit featuring The Steve Miller Band at Skylight Studios. There wasn’t an open seat in the house!

The honoree was the venture capitalist Ron Conway, whose brilliant career, entrepreneurial spirit and philanthropic nature, made him the perfect candidate for this recognition. Ron spearheaded the funding for the Matt Wiederkehr Laboratory at the Mission Bay campus at the University of California, San Francisco. The team working in the laboratory is focusing their research on proteins found in the body that mark the progression of cancer from the development of a healthy cell into a precancerous and, at times, a malignant one.  (more…)

1st Annual Benefit Concert | Featuring Seal

On Wednesday, May 17, 2006, more than 500 of Matt’s friends, family, and colleagues came together to honor his memory and celebrate his life. In every way, it was one of the most remarkable evenings. Several board members of Matt’s Promise had been thinking for months that an event would allow us to shed light on our mission and keep Matt’s memory alive. This event surpassed its goal in every aspect. It was a thrill to honor Tim Armstrong of Google, who gave so much of his love and attention to Matt when he was ill. Tim was a wonderful mentor to Matt, who not only taught him the “ropes” but also gave Matt hope and encouraged strength.A high point of the evening was having Seal, Britain’s most popular soul vocalist of the decade, who performed his fusion of soul, folk, pop, and rock that has brought him success on both sides of the Atlantic. His wife, model Heidi Klum, was also present and, together with Seal, they brought a lot of excitement to the evening. (more…)
